KUALA LUMPUR: A proposal to have Facebook users in the country register their accounts with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is impossible to implement, said Information Technology Youth Movement president Khaireel Azlee Abdul Aziz.

Even if it is implemented, he said there would be irresponsible groups or those skilled in technology who could use other methods, such as creating false identities through forged IP addresses.

Khaireel Azlee said the tracing of anyone who uploaded obscene or inflammatory content through Facebook could only be done if the perpetrator used his real identity.

Last Friday, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the Government might look into the possibility of shutting down access to Facebook following a string of abuses of late.

He said the ministry would conduct a survey to get public feedback on the matter. — Bernama
