PUTRAJAYA: The Civil Court has authority to hear former political activist Dr Kassim Ahmad's challenge against the Syariah prosecution over allegations of insulting Islam, ruled the Court of Appeal.
Justice Balia Yusof Wahi said a substantial part of the challenge lay in how a public body - the Federal Territory Religious Department (Jawi) - had initiated proceedings against Kassim.
