Special needs boy, 14, goes missing in Gombak

PETALING JAYA: A special needs teenager has been missing since 4pm Thursday after insisting he wanted to be left alone when his father Mohammad Khuzaini Ismail wanted to pick him up from school.

The mother of Ammar Muzakkir, Nik Nazli Nik Ahmad, said the boy, 14, was last seen taking the LRT from Gombak.

"Ammar, in addition to having learning disabilities, also has behavioural problems and once grabbed the steering wheel of the car after his brother refused to drop him off when he asked to be alone.

"We really did not have a choice, and usually when we leave him on his own, he will find his way home one way or another," she said Friday when contacted by The Star Online.

Nik Nazli said she lodged a report at the Gombak police station Friday morning and spread the news on social media and to relatives.

She added that Ammar was  used to travelling on his own and had gone missing several times before, but always came back home after a few hours.

"He would take a cab to a relative's house, or a bus, or sometimes even a train home. Although he does not know the address, he is very good with directions.

"We try to do everything we can to keep him safe, including equipping him with a handphone so that he can call when needed.

However, Ammar traded in the handphone for some money, she said, adding that Ammar often did such things.

She added that despite having a MyKad and an OKU card, Ammar sometimes chucked them away when he felt that he did not want to be identified.

"He even intentionally lost two of his school uniforms with his name on them because he did not want people to know who he was," she said, adding that Ammar was enrolled in the Melawati Day Care Centre.

"We just want him to return home safely and we hope that people who may have seen him will come forward to share the information with us," she said.

Nik Nazli added that her son was last seen wearing a round-collared black T-shirt and navy blue school pants.

"He did not carry his bag with him and I am afraid he might not have any of his identification details with him either," she said.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad confirmed receiving the missing person's report and said that the case is under investigation.

"So far there are no leads to the boy's whereabouts, but we encourage the public to come forward with any information on where he might be," he added.
