Cops hunting for instigator of Keningau street fight

KOTA KINABALU: Police are hunting for a man they believe is the main instigator behind a street fight in Sabah’s interior Keningau town.

Keningau district deputy police chief Assistant Supt Awang Damit said police were also looking for several others involved in the brawl that left three people injured.

“We believe they have gone into hiding,” he said, adding that the fight was captured on video.

The clip was widely circulated via Facebook and social media sites.

Following the Sunday afternoon incident, which was believed to have been sparked by intoxication and a dispute over women, the police arrested a 34-year-old foreigner.

The police, said ASP Awang, were also using the video footage to identify at least five more suspects.

“We have identified some of them and hope to make arrests soon,” he said.

Most of those involved in the fight are believed to be workers or fishmongers at the fish market in the town.
