PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Mohamed Basir Ahmad (pic), the husband of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, passed away at 3.51am on Sunday at the Singapore General Hospital.
He was 75. According to Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob, Mohamed Basir died of a heart attack.
His remains will be brought back from Singapore and a funeral prayer will be held at Masjid Umar Al-Khattab, Bukit Damansara.
The former Maybank chairman will be laid to rest after Asar prayers at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery.
Mohamed Basir served as Maybank chairman for 16 years and retired in 2009.
He leaves behind Rafidah, the former International Trade and Industry minister, a son, two daughters and five grandchildren.
