Thomas Cup: Malaysia storms into final


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia stormed into the finals of the Thomas Cup after beating Indonesia 3-0 in the semifinals at the Siri Fort Stadium in New Delhi on Friday.

Chong Wei Feng defeated Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in the deciding game with a 21-10, 21-17 score in the third tie.

Chong gave Malaysia the winning point against Rumbaka


Datuk Lee Chong Wei had set the ball rolling when he defeated Indonesia's top player Tommy Sugiarto 21-19, 21-13.

In the second game, doubles pair Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Tien How defeated Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan 21-19, 8-21, 23-21.

Malaysia will meet Japan who stunned China 3-0 in an earlier semifinal.

Malaysia last won the Thomas Cup back in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur when they defeated Indonesia.

The final will be played on Sunday.
