Clerk and cook jailed for shoplifting

KUALA LUMPUR: A Filipino clerk was sentenced to one day's jail and fined RM600 by the Magistrate's Court on Thursday for shoplifting.

MA Carolina Andallon, 40, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin to committing the offence at the Aeon supermarket in Kepong, Sentul at 4.30pm on May 10.

Among the stolen items stole were cuttlefish, tiger prawns, 3-in-1 sachet drinks, beauty care products and dishwashing detergent totalling RM176.06.

According to the facts of the case, a security guard who saw her stuffing the items into a plastic bag, apprehended her at the parking area when she left without paying.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa appeared for the prosecution while counsel Vincent Chew Zi Xian represented Carolina.

 Meanwhile, a cook who also pleaded guilty to shoplifting at a supermarket was sentenced to one day's jail by Magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan.

Cheong Hong Teck, 49, stole two bottles of liquor, prawns, two packets of chopstick and plastic bag worth a total of RM115.42 from the Tesco supermarket in Bandar Manjalara here at 11.30am on May 10.

Deputy public prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling appeared for the prosecution while Cheong was unrepresented. - Bernama
