LED TVs, fridge, stove for 150,000 flood victims

SHAH ALAM: A television, a fridge, a mattress, pillows and a stove. That’s what around 32,000 families of victims affected by the flood last December will get each.

The aforementioned aid is a joint effort by Putera 1Malaysia Club, Umno and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The 32-inch LED televisions and two-door fridges are contributed by MCMC and Umno respectively, while the mattresses, pillows and stoves are from the Putera 1Malaysia Club.

Putera 1Malaysia Club chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim expects more than 150,000 victims to benefit from this aid.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will get the ball rolling on Jan 12 in Kemaman, Terengganu, said Abdul Azeez.

“Of the 16,710 families affected in Terengganu, 13,470 are in Kemaman. Hopefully this would lessen their burden.

“The PM wants to make sure that every rakyat will benefit from the aid, regardless of one’s political leanings. Look at Kelantan or Indera Mahkota in Kuantan. These are not Barisan Nasional turfs, but we still go there and offer help,” he said.

The aid will be fully disbursed in the five states affected by the flood, namely Pahang, Malacca, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor, by April.

“The aid delivery to Pahang and Malacca are almost complete. Next we’ll focus on Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor.

Abdul Azeez added that he’s been talking to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek on the possibility of engaging electrical appliance stores and furniture stores to provide help to the victims.

Almost 600 containers of disaster relief supplies had been delivered to the affected areas, with the latest batch being about 100 containers to Kemaman, Terengganu.
