KUALA LUMPUR: The United States (US) Embassy here, together with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, are inviting applications for the Study of the US Institute (SUSI) for Scholars.

In a statement, the embassy said that accepted applicants would go through a six-week course at various colleges, universities and institutions throughout the country, beginning June next year or later.

"SUSI for Scholar are intensive post-graduate level academic programmes whose purpose is to provide groups of foreign university faculty and other scholars an opportunity to develop deeper understanding of the US.

"A total of six institutes will be offered in the following themes in the US Studies, which are Contemporary American Literature; Journalism and Media; Religious Pluralism in the US; US Culture and Society; US Foreign Policy and US Political Thought.

"Each institute includes a four-week academic residency component and up to two weeks of an integrated study tour," it said.

It also said that prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the official website to obtain general information about the institutes at http://exchanges.state.gov/susi.

"The application deadline is Dec 31, 2013, and the electronic application form may be viewed and downloaded from http://malaysia.usembassy.gov/susi.html," it said. - Bernama
