KUALA LUMPUR: A responsible government will always do the right thing and tell people the truth, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Citing the government's move to abolish sugar subsidy effective Saturday to discourage sugar intake, he said the measure was in fact a good one as the subsidy was wasteful and that efforts to rationalise subsidies were important for the country.

He said Malaysians should learn to reduce their sugar intake for the sake of their health.

"I have also learnt to take tea without sugar. You can change for your own good. This is a responsible government and we must continue to tell the people the right thing, the truth. Eventually, they will also accept it," said Najib after launching Gerakan's 42nd National Delegates Conference. -Bernama
