Petrosains fest to liven up daily science

KUALA LUMPUR: Science will literally come alive at the Petrosains Science Festival 2013 from Oct 22 to 27 at Petrosains, The Discovery Centre in Suria KLCC here.

The festival, the first of its kind of this scale and scope, aims to highlight everyday applications of science.

“Science is all around us and a part of our daily lives. Through this festival, we’d like to make the point that science is for everyone, not just for people in the field, but for children and adults alike,” said Petrosains chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim during the official launch at Galleria 1, Petrosains, yesterday.

The six-day festival, themed Bringing Science Alive, incorporates the three key elements of discovery, play and innovation, making science a holistic learning experience, all conducted in a fun environment.

“We are honoured to be able to play a role in inspiring our younger generation in science and help the national science education agenda objective of raising scientific literacy in the country,” Tengku Nasariah added.

Highlights for the annual celebration include fun and educational activities such as exhibitions, workshops, science shows, contests and stage performances.

Petrosains Science Festival is designed from the ground up to be interactive, so apart from merely observing the exhibits, visitors will get to feel and touch some of them, too.

Key partners for the festival include Petronas, Google, Telekom Malaysia, The Star (the event’s official newspaper), and Nova Spectra.

Star Publications (M) Bhd executive vice-president, print business, Calvin Kan said the exhibition bodes well for the nation’s science development.

“Malaysia’s inaugural science festival promises a whirlwind of discovery and excitement for people of all ages and The Star is proud to be associated with it,” he said.

Petrosains Science Festival 2013 will be held at Petrosains, as well as Suria KLCC’s Centre Court and Esplanade.

Festival hours at Petrosains, The Discovery Centre are from 9.30am-5.30pm on weekdays and until 8.30pm from Friday to Sunday.

Activities at Suria KLCC’s Centre Court are from 10am-10pm daily while the fun at the Esplanade lasts is 4pm-7pm.
