GE13: Three-term MP Fong Po Kuan will not defend Batu Gajah seat

IPOH: Incumbent Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan of the DAP is staying out of the general election citing personal reasons.

She issued a press statement on Wednesday saying she has written and informed party adviser Lim Kit Siang and chairman Karpal Singh about her decision in September last year.

Fong added that she would continue to contribute towards Pakatan Rakyat's efforts to capture Putrajaya in the polls.

“This is my own decision and I thank my constituents, my party and supporters for giving me a chance to represent them in Parliament,” she said when contacted by The Star.

In the 2008 general election, Fong retained the Batu Gajah seat for a third term with a majority of 24,627 votes.

She obtained 39,922 votes against Cheah Yoke Can of BN-MCA who obtained 15,295 votes.
