Ex-dep education minister Mahadzir Mohd Khir dies after heart attack

KUALA LUMPUR: Former deputy education minister Datuk Dr Mahadzir Mohd Khir died after a heart attack just after 5pm on Wednesday. He was 67.

His body will be taken to his home in Petaling Jaya and he is expected to be buried Thursday morning, said Umno Online.

Party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Umno Supreme Council members offered their condolences to his family, the portal said.

Mahadzir, who was born in Kedah on May 16 1945, was an educator who was a History lecturer in Universiti Malaya before becoming a Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education.

He became a member of parliament for Sungai Petani after winning the seat in the 1999 general elections.
