Sabah minister escapes with light injuries, bodyguard critical


KOTA KINABALU: A state minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun escaped with light injuries when the vehicle she travelling in skidded into a steel railing before landing in a drain at Jalan Kepayan here at 7.45am on Sunday.

Azizah, who is state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where doctors reportedly gave her outpatient treatment and her injuries were described as minor.

However, her bodyguard Sairul Hamid, 51, was reportedly unconscious and had sustained serious leg injuries that doctors might have to amputate.

The driver Yousrie Syah, 33, also sustained injuries is under observation at the hospital.

It is learned that Azizah was on her way from Kota Kinabalu to her hometown in Beaufort when the driver apparently lost control of Toyata Prado at Km6 Jalan Kapayan- Lok Kawi before veering into a railing and landing partially in a drain.

Azizah and the driver were alright immediately after the accident and were taken to hospital by police while an ambulance ferried the bodyguard.

An aide of Azizah said that the minister was fine though shaken by the incident.

She was on the way back to Beaufort to attend three official functions.
