Landowners contest High Court default judgment

KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer M. Manoharan has obtained a judgment in default from the High Court for RM3.9mil in legal and consultation fees for allegedly acting for two land owners.

However, the land owners - medical centre Imran ENT Specialist Sdn Bhd and its director Aminah Sirajudin - are applying to set aside the judgment.

Yesterday, High Court judge Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof set March 9 to hear the application after meeting lawyer Mansheel Kaur for the landowners and Manoharan who represented himself in chambers.

Speaking to reporters later, Mansheel said her clients were seeking to set aside the judgment on grounds that the claim was allegedly not served on them and that they contend to have merits in their defence.

“My clients have instructed me that they denied owing Manoharan RM3.9mil.

“They will put their defence in the event the High Court sets aside the default judgment,” she said.

Manoharan had obtained the default judgment on Jan 10.

In his lawsuit filed on Dec 22 last year, Manoharan said he was appointed by the defendants to advise them on land deals.
