MUAR: The first phase of the Pagoh Education Hub, launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Thursday, is capable of accommodating 14,000 students.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Education Hub, Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the development of the first phase would involve four local public institutions of higher learning (IPTA).
He said the local IPTAs were the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Research Centre, and Politeknik Pagoh.
"The total cost for the construction of the education hub, encompassing several phases up to 15 years, is expected to be between RM5bil and RM6bil," said Muhyiddin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pagoh.
He said the Pagoh Education Hub would be developed on a 1,000-acre site out of a total of 4,100 acres, which would be developed as the Pagoh University Town.
