Abdullah Ayub among 1,707 conferred titles in conjunction with King’s birthday


KUALA LUMPUR: Former chief secretary to the Government Tan Sri Abdullah Ayub headed the list of 1,707 recipients of awards in conjunction with the birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

Abdullah, the pro-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, received the Seri Setia Mahkota Malaysia (SSM) award, which carries the title Tun' yesterday.

He was chief secretary to the Government from 1979 to 1980.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar and former Sabah chief minister Datuk Harris Salleh received the Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN) award, which carries the title Tan Sri'.

Thirty-seven other people received the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award, which also carries the Tan Sri' title.

Among them were Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Abdullah, Federal Court judges Datuk Seri Raus Sharif and Datuk Abdull Hamid Embong, Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Radzi Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail and Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ghauth Jasmon.

Other recipients included Merdeka Studios founder Datuk L. Krishnan, Malaysian Aids Council president Datuk Mohd Zaman Khan @ Hassan Rahim Khan, AirAsia Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernan-des, former deputy IGP Datuk Hussin Ismail and former Minister in the Prime Minister's Depart-ment Brig-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Ngah @ Zainal Abidin.

Nine people were conferred the Darjah Panglima Setia di-Raja (PSD) award, which carries the title Datuk'.

Among them were the senior private secretary to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Datuk Zuki Ali, Melati Ehsan Holdings Berhad executive director Tan Hong Hing @ Tan Eng Hing and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aide-de-camp to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Brig-Jen Zaharin Ahmad.

Sixty-seven people received the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) award, which also carries the Datuk' title.

They included prosecution division head in the Attorney-General's Chambers Datuk Tun Abdul Majid Hamzah, senior professor of pathology at Universiti Malaya's Medical Faculty Prof Dr Looi Lai Meng, national football team chief coach K. Rajagobal and national football legend, the late R. Arumugam.

Others included Mount Everest climbers Datuk N. Mohanadas and Datuk M. Magendran, Deputy Chief of Army Lt Gen Datuk Pahlawan Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, Wanita Umno vice-head Kamilia Datuk Ibrahim and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president John Sikie Tayai. - Bernama
