Kimma becomes Umno associate member

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) is now an associate member of Umno, with observer status at the party's general assembly, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said Kimma would not interfere in the operations of Umno but will strengthen the party and the Barisan Nasional coalition.

Najib was speaking at a press conference after the Umno supreme council meeting here Friday.

On another matter, the Prime Minister also cautioned Malaysians not to react to the anti-Malaysia demonstrations in Jakarta which he said were the acts of paid mercenaries to disrupt bilateral ties.

Najib also warned people against spinning half-truths on racial issues and painting the perception that Government practised selective prosecution.
