GOMBAK: Families of inmates involved in a fight at the Sungai Buloh prison last Thursday lodged a police report urging full investigation on the incident.
The six families, comprising about 20 people, who were accompanied by Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam made the report to know exactly what had happened in the fight.
“The families have been offered many different versions on the incident.
“They just want the truth,” he told reporters outside the Gombak police headquarters shortly before lodging the report on Sunday.
T. Sathyaseelan, 35 said he was informed by prison officials that his brother, an inmate, had only sustained a sprained ankle and bruises but was surprised to see him with two legs and an arm fractured when he visited him at the hospital.
Manikavasagam also said that the fight was a major breach of security in the prison and the families deserved an explanation.
Gombak deputy OCPD Supt Rosly Hassan who confirmed the report said the matter will be investigated thoroughly.
Over 20 of the Sungai Buloh prison inmates were allegedly involved in the fight injuring five detainees and a warden.
The fight was believed to have started when five inmates set upon a fellow detainee before 18 more joined the scrap at 3.30pm.
The warden was injured when breaking up the fight.
On Friday, MIC Youth social and welfare bureau head S. Subramaniam lodged a similar report on behalf of several inmates’ families at the Sentul police headquarters.
On the same day, the Home Ministry said a special board has been formed to investigate the matter.
