Sapura boss weds Iranian


THE chairman and founder of Sapura Group Tan Sri Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir married 30-year old Mariam Parineh Nariman from Iran on Thursday.  

Utusan Malaysia which front-paged the story yesterday reported that Shamsuddin, 76, had been widowed after his wife died in 2004.  

The modest wedding was held in accordance with Malay custom and was attended by about 100 people consisting of family members and close friends at his home in The Mines Lake House in Sri Kembangan.  

Shamsuddin became Mariam’s husband at 12.30pm, after they were married by Aluwi Parman, the Selangor Religious Department marriage, divorce and referral head with mas kahwin of RM80. 

Mariam then received wang hantaran of RM50,000 and in return for three trays of hantaran with five trays containing a ring, a copy of the Quran, tasbih (prayer beads), a prayer mat, a full attire and sweets. 

Among those who attended the ceremony were former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abd Rahman and former Inspector General of Police Tun Mohamed Haniff Omar and wife Toh Puan Hamidah Abdul Hamid.  

It is learnt that Mariam is a director of a company in Malaysia. Prior to this, she lived and had a business in the United States.  

Malaysian Syabu King arrested in the Philippines 

Harian Metro reported that a Malaysian labelled as Asia’s Syabu King was arrested in the Philippines after he was tracked down for building the largest syabu factory and processing laboratory there.  

It added that the syabu was believed to be distributed by the suspect for the Philippines’ black market and was smuggled into China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.  

Chin Soon Goon, 46 was arrested together with a 30-year old Singaporean, two China nationals aged 36 and 54 and three Filipinos by Philippines’ anti-narcotics police.
