PENANG: The consort of Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, Toh Puan Majimor Shariff, heads the list of 1,272 people who will be conferred state awards in conjunction with his 69th birthday celebrations today.
Majimor, 64, will receive the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN) which carries the title Datuk Seri Utama.
Army chief Jeneral Tan Sri Muhammad Ismail Jamaluddin are among the nine people who will receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN) which carries the title Datuk Seri.
The other DGPN recipients are Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique, Penang Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Yahaya Abdul Hamid, Universiti Malaya pro-chancellor Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong, Gama Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Eric Lim Ewe Chye, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd deputy chairman Datuk Kalimullah Hassan, Mini-Circuits Technologies Malaysia chairman and president Kelvin Kiew Kwong Sen, Wawasan Open University Sdn Bhd board member Datuk Stephen Yeap Leong Huat and businessman Datuk Cheah Eu Kiat.
Nine people will receive the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) which carries the title Datuk. Among them are High Court Judge Datuk Abdul Kadir Musa, Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Koh Hong Sun, Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce executive advisor Datuk Choot Ewe Seng and Prof Dr Liew Choong Chin who is a pioneer in the emerging field of molecular medicine and is globally recognised as a leader in disease-specific genomics research.
There are 73 recipients of the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which also carries the title Datuk.
Among them are Komtar assemblyman Lim Gim Soon, Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia trustee and chief executive officer Leela Mohd Ali, Equator Academy of Art & Design chief executive officer Chuah Kooi Seng @ Chuah Kooi Yong, and Belleview Sdn Bhd chairman and managing director Sonny Ho Kiong Chan.
Also receiving the DSPN are Dell Asia Pacific managing director Simon Wong Woon Keong, Malaysian Heart Foundation director S. Kulasegaran, Penang Floral Art Society chief advisor Lim Bian Yam, and Teh Kew San who represented the country in the Thomas Cup four times and won the championship as its captain in 1967.
There are 63 recipients of the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), 18 of the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (BCN), 215 of the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT) and 443 of the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK).
In addition, 414 people, including The Star journalist Ng Su Ann, will receive the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (PJM) and 27 the Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS).
