PUTRAJAYA: Former Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan is the the new Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur. Abdul Hakim starts his two-year tenure as KL mayor today.

FT Ministries deputy secretary-general Fauziah Bachik will assume the secretary-general post until further notice.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique made the announcement at his office yesterday.

Zulhasnan said Abdul Hakim had a heavy responsibility, as Kuala Lumpur was an ever-changing city.

“Like all the other mayors before him, Abdul Hakim will have to tackle the problem of floods and traffic congestion plaguing the city,” said Zulhasnan.

He said the job of mayor was demanding and required long working hours to ensure that work was carried out properly with minimum hitches.
