Three ministers head Malacca honours list


MALACCA: Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Information Minister Datuk Zainudin Maidin head the state awards and honours list in conjunction with the 68th birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Malacca, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, today. 

They are conferred the Darjah Gemilang Seri Melaka award, which carries the title Datuk Seri.  

Seven people receive the Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka, which carries the title Datuk Wira. 

They are High Court Judge Datuk Abu Samah Nordin, Chief of Defence Forces Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Bank Pembangunan chairman Tan Sri Dr Zainul Ariff Hussain, Tenaga Nasional CEO Datuk Khalib Mohamad Noh, UiTM vice-chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah and businessman Datuk Seri Adam Sani Abdullah. 

Sixty-nine recipients are bestowed the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka, which carries the title Datuk. 

Among them are state executive councillors Abd Rahaman Abd Karim and Md Yunus Husin, deputy state assembly speaker Idderis Kassim, state police chief SAC Ayub Yaakob, senior police officers’ college commandant SAC Benjamin Hasbie;  

D-Paradise Tropical Fruit World and Aboriginal Village managing director Lee Wah Chong, Aik Bee Resources Bhd managing director Tan Aik Hong, Mamee Decker managing director Pang Tee Chew, Insolvency Department director-general Halijah Abbas; 

New Straits Times Group editor-in-chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun, Utusan group editor Datuk Mohd Khalid Mohd, Malaysian ambassador to Ghana Mahalil Baharam, Syariah High Court Judge Mahamad Ibrahim; 

Road Safety Department director-general Suret Singh; and St John Ambulance Malaysia state deputy commander Brig Jen Dr N. Rajagopal; Putra Hospital specialists Dr Nor Azham Aziz, Lt Kol (Rtd) Dr Senasi Annamalai and Dr Zakriya Mahamooth, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s press secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad. 

A total of 37 recipients receive the Darjah Seri Melaka, 39 the Jaksa Pendamai, 99 the Bintang Cemerlang Melaka, 134 the Bintang Khidmat Terpuji, 262 the Pingat Jaksa Kebaktian, 128 the Pingat Bakti Mayarakat and 44 the Pingat Khidmat Lama.  

The 823 recipients will receive their awards in a two-day ceremony, postponed to Nov 6 and 8 due to Ramadan. 

Among those receiving the JP award are Malacca Chinese Assembly Hall chairman Chan Swee Yen, Tan Sri Rahim Tamby Chik’s brother Abd Aziz Tamby Chik, Dr Kulwant Singh and filmmaker Ruhani Ab Rahman. 

Several artistes receive the BCM – Shahrul Anuar Zain, who is Ziana Zain’s brother, and Shahrizan Ahmad, and Rahim @ Mohd Nor Jantan.
