BACK TO THE FRAY: Karpal Singh being helped out of the Dewan yesterday after he attended Parliament for the first time in nine months.

BUKIT Gelugor MP Karpal Singh kept to his word and made a brief appearance at the Dewan after being away from action for more than nine months.

The DAP chairman, who is wheelchair-bound, was brought in by son Ram Karpal Singh Deo and accompanied by wife Gurmit Kaur and daughter Sangeet Kaur Deo at 11.40am.

In the Dewan, he was allocated a space at the end of the last row, next to Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan as he was unable to walk to his seat on the first row of the Opposition Bloc.

At a press conference later, Karpal Singh said he was happy to be back.

“I’m as spirited as before. I’ll make every effort to be here daily,” he said.

Karpal Singh expressed thanks to the Speaker for making preparations to facilitate his return to the Dewan.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk S. Sothinathan, who has been suspended from his post for three months, attended the sitting, this time as a backbencher.

The Teluk Kemang MP, who was suspended last week for breaking ranks with the Government, sat next to Kuala Rajang MP Datuk Abdul Wahab Dollah.
