Poverty rate reduced to 5% from 49.3% in 1970, says Ong

KUALA LUMPUR: The poverty rate in the country has been reduced to 5% in 2002 compared with 49.3% in 1970. 

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the figure was an achievement by any standard.
