TAIWANESE actor and stuntman Ko Shou-liang, who “sailed” over the Great Wall of China on a motorcycle in 1992, died in Shanghai on Tuesday, China Press and Nanyang Siang Pau highlighted on their front page yesterday.
Quoting a police spokesman in Shanghai, the dailies reported that Ko, 50, nicknamed Xiao Hei (Blackie), could have died from an asthma attack due to excessive alcohol consumption.
Ko was reported to have been drinking with friends at three banquets from 6pm on Monday to 4am the following day.
He was found unconscious on a sofa at his friend’s house at about 10am on Tuesday. Doctors in Shanghai said Ko died at about 11.45am.
Ko, who “flew” over the Yellow River in China in a sports car in 1997, was a stunt director in some of Jacky Chan’s movies.
He was also known for the Mandarin song Ben Xiao Hai (Silly Kid), which he sang with Andy Lau and Wu Zong Xian.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Ko left behind his wife and three children who are currently staying in Singapore.
The three dailies also reported that the Education Ministry would look into recognising dental, medical, astronautics and certain engineering degrees from China.
Quoting Deputy Education Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim, the dailies reported that he hoped China would also consider recognising degrees from Malaysia.
He said many people had urged the ministry to recognise the degrees from China as many students had pursued courses there.
China Press also reported that the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall would discuss proposals to sack Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall president Datuk Liew Poon Siak from his position as permanent chairman in the Selangor organisation.
