KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA has bestowed upon former MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik the title “Father of Wanita MCA Development” in appreciation of his contributions to the movement’s growth.
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said Dr Ling had given women a lot of chances to achieve high goals.
“It’s you who recognised the abilities of women. “It’s you who changed the (party) constitution to increase the number of Wanita central committee members,” she commended Dr Ling in her speech at an appreciation night for the former MCA president here yesterday.
Dr Ng thanked both Dr Ling and his former deputy, Datuk Lim Ah Lek, for their wisdom and leadership in guiding the movement and the party.
She believed that under the current leadership, headed by Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting and Datuk Chan Kong Choy, the party would be able to achieve greater heights.
In his speech, Dr Ling said many women today were highly educated and even outperformed men at times.
He added that the performance of Wanita MCA had proven that his decision was right to increase the number of Wanita central committee members.
He urged all party members to give Ong and Chan their fullest support.
“The party will continue to do very well,” he said, adding that he hoped there would also be continuous support for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) and Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College).
Dr Ling later received a mock cheque of RM1,488,888.88 for the Utar fund from the movement.
