State to reach greater heights

KLANG: The far-sightedness and the good working relationship that Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has with the state government will drive Selangor to greater heights, said its Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

In his pledge of allegiance during Sultan Sharafuddin's coronation as the ninth Ruler of Selangor at Istana Alam Shah yesterday, Dr Khir said the Sultan’s quality of positive thinking would be a great asset to the state and its people.

“Sultan Sharafuddin will not only be able to continue the good work of his late father Sultan Salahuddin (Abdul Aziz Shah) but is poised to lead the state in facing future challenges.

“His presence will also boost the state’s vision of becoming a fully developed state by year 2005,” he said.

Since he was proclaimed as the Sultan of Selangor last November, Dr Khir said Sultan Sharafuddin had established himself as a positive and far-sighted Ruler, adding that the Sultan always kept the interests of the rakyat close to his heart.

He said Sultan Sharafuddin was very concerned about the people's welfare and they were assured that their interests would be protected.

“We are fortunate to have Sultan Sharafuddin as our Ruler and hope his reign will be a long-lasting one.

“The people of Selangor and I will pray to God to bestow the Sultan with good health and long life,” he added.

“Despite the many changes brought about by time, the Selangor Sultanate has continued to play a vital role in the state’s progress and the people will continue to respect our Sultan and wish him well at all times,” he said in congratulating Sultan Sharafuddin on his coronation.
