KUALA TERENGGANU: Fresh accusations have been made in the dispute over the use of Terengganu’s zakat (tithe) funds, with the state Umno claiming that the state government had been using RM2.7mil of the money annually as allowances for 320 missionaries.
Terengganu Umno information secretary Wan Hisham Wan Salleh claimed these missionaries were PAS cadres, placed at suraus and mosques to spread the PAS doctrine. They were appointed last year and were paid between RM600 and RM800 monthly, he told reporters yesterday.
