Seremban motorist who caused teen deaths changes plea to guilty

SEREMBAN: A 17-year-old motorist who had claimed trial to three charges of causing the deaths of three young motorcyclists due to reckless driving changed his plea in the Magistrate's court here.

The accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him again before magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah during case management on Wednesday (Dec 17).

The accused had claimed trial when first charged on April 22.

He was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16, and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17.

He was charged with committing the offence at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here around 8.30pm on March 6.

It was earlier reported that he had beaten the red light at the junction, resulting in the fatal crash.

The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

On Nov 19, the court was told that the Attorney General's Chambers had rejected a representation filed by the defence team.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin then fixed Feb 25 for sentencing pending the tabling of a probation report.
