Engineering: A sound career choice

WITH shifting workforce trends brought on by the Fourth Industrial Revolution comes the pressure of staying relevant in the careers we have embarked on.

Some jobs we train for today could become obsolete within the next few years.

While this is influenced by the changing nature of jobs, it also largely hinges on the fields students enter and the skills they build during the course of their studies.

SEGi Faculty of Engineering, the varsity said in a press release, emphasises fostering an environment where students and teachers from Malaysia are allowed to interact easily with its partner universities from the United Kingdom and Australia.

Students enrolled in its internationally recognised double degree programme will graduate with two parchments – one from SEGi University and another from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in the UK.

Aspiring engineers will have access to apply their trade in advanced labs and workshops with tools to build their skills.

“Our programmes are taught at top engineering facilities.

“At SEGi, we offer a comprehensive range of engineering disciplines from foundation and diploma to bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical and electronic engineering, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering,” the varsity said.

SEGi alsos offers cutting-edge programmes in the fields of construction management, environmental technology and civil engineering.

“Over 95% of our engineering and built environment graduates are employed within three months of graduation,” the varsity said.

Built environment, which comprises fields such as construction, project management, architecture, environmental design and planning, refers to manufactured construction and infrastructure.

Engineering may not be the easiest course to study, but its jobs continue to be in high demand with good salaries in Malaysia and globally.

The prospects of graduating with an engineering degree are beneficial from the financial perspective, and job demand and security standpoints, said the varsity.

“With sectors ranging from agriculture, healthcare and entertainment to business, no other career comes close to the options engineering offers.”
