SUNWAY University launched its MOOC Portal in partnership with OpenLearning to deliver its first innovative Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Four courses are made available online as an effort by Sunway University and OpenLearning to build flexible learning environments for students and those interested to achieve better outcomes in their learning.
The MOOCs are based on topics that are current and in demand by students and employers.
The first four courses to hit the portal are: AR VR: The Promise of Sci-Fi, Secrets to Success as a Freshman, A Beginner’s Guide to Coffee and Shaping Future Healthcare: The Promise of Genes.
These courses are open for registration to the public at no fee at all.
More than 150 people have already enrolled in each of the four courses since the portal was opened.
No prior qualification is required to enrol for these introductory MOOCs.
“Our MOOCs will help us disseminate the specialist knowledge of our expert staff to a global audience.” said Sunway University vice-chancellor Prof Graeme Wilkinson.
The courses are based on online educational strategies, where students are encouraged to be actively engaged in their process of learning within and beyond the online course. Sunway University’s Subject Matter Experts provided content for each of the four MOOCs to the OpenLearning Design team.
“We are very pleased that Sunway University chose OpenLearning as its partner in delivering online courses that students will find interesting with the goal of improving student outcomes and access to higher education,” said OpenLearning chief executive officer and co-founder Adam Brimo.
The courses are available on the Sunway University MOOC portal at https://online.sunway.edu.my/.
