A CROWD of hundreds enjoyed the premiere of Queensbay Mall’s Christmas musical called ‘The Enchanted Cuckoo Clock’.

The lovely tale of friendship, love and acceptance played out against a rustic festive backdrop.

In the play, Mr Poppy, the cuckoo clock keeper, dislikes Christmas as he has to spend it alone after his wife fell ill.

He takes away the magic from the clock and hides it away in a box.

On Christmas Eve, Giselle happens upon a stranger who drops a mysterious key before disappearing.

She meets some toy soldiers who tell her that the key is what will restore the clock to its former glory.

With the help of some white mice and ballerinas, she locates Mr Poppy’s box and unlocks it, bringing joy back in time for Christmas.

Mr Poppy, with his wife recovered, now has some friends to keep him company for the holiday season.

The cast, hailing from Adelaide, Australia, included Alexa Vozzo.

The 20-year-old, who plays Giselle, also performed in Penang last year and was delighted with the fantastic reception which matched last year’s response.

“The crowd was wonderful. We love the stage, it’s so beautiful and gives off an enchanting feel that captures the magic of Christmas,” she added after the show last Saturday.

Also in the group were Brooke Measham, 15, Kyle Hall, 17, Sam Trenwith, 20, Monica Holyrim, 21, and Amber Laidlaw, who just turned 23.

The event also doubled up as the mall’s annual Media Appreciation Night.

Following the show, about 80 pressmen were ushered to Dome cafe for a hearty buffet dinner.

There were fun and games throughout the night, with the mall’s centre manager Selina Ng going around to mingle with the guests from print, broadcast and online media.

Lady Luck smiled on 20 of the guests as they each took home lucky draw prizes of a brand new iPad Mini.

The Enchanted Cuckoo Clock musical is on daily until Dec 25 (except Tuesday), with showtimes at 1.30pm and 7.30pm.

There are photo opportunities with the cast at 4.30pm.

Making the season more magical is a live ‘snow’ experience at 2pm and 8pm daily from tomorrow till Dec 25 at the same venue.

Among other events are the Date with Santa at the central atrium at 3pm, and Joy of Carols sessions at Queens Street at 7pm, tomorrow, Dec 21, 24 and 25.

The mall is also having a Festive Market at the ground floor north zone until Jan 4.
