FREE community bus service is among ways to reduce traffic congestion.
Investment, Industry (SME) & Commerce and Transportation committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim said based on studies, the state government has decided to provide free bus services in certain areas.
He was replying to Gan Pei Nei’s (PKR-Rawang) question about the state government’s efforts to provide public transportation that was easily accessible to help reduce traffic congestion.
“The state, through the local councils, carried out traffic studies before any public transportation project takes place,” he said.
The community bus service is currently provided at Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam.
The bus route in Petaling Jaya starts from Jalan PJS 23/2 and goes through Jalan Templar, Jalan Penchala, Jalan Universiti, and Jalan Gasing; in Shah Alam, the route begins from the city centre stop (Hentian Pusat Bandar Shah Alam) in Section 14 and passes through Section 2, 7, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, an 18.
However, he was unable to answer Gan’s question about the subsidy by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to bus companies and the areas involved, as the state government had no access to the information.
