THE much-anticipated Penang Hop-On Hop-Off bus service will be launched in the state next month.
Elang Wah Sdn Bhd corporate executive Yusrina Mokhtar said the service would ply two routes – the Teluk Bahang-Persiaran Gurney, known as the beach route, and Persiaran Gurney-Penang Hill, known as the city route.
“The route from Persiaran Gurney to Penang Hill also covers the George Town area.
“The service will be launched with 10 buses on Nov 16 at G Hotel, Penang,” she said.
Yusrina said the exact date of the full operations of the Penang Hop-On Hop-Off buses would only be announced at the launch.
She said the service offers a tour which will cover 33 tourist spots on Penang Island.
“Passengers can stay on the tour for the full tour, or hop-on or hop-off at any one of the stops. The concept is similar to the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus.
“The tour will run from 9am to 8pm daily, seven days a week,” she said when met at the Penang Hill bottom station.
Yusrina said tickets to ride on the buses are priced at RM45 (adults) and RM24 (children) for non-Malaysian tourists, and RM19 (adults) and RM12 (children) for MyKad holders.
Yusrina was among 30 staff members of Elang Wah on a four-day fun trip around the island aimed at familiarising themselves with the Penang Hop-On Hop-Off service.
Two of the buses ferrying them stopped at Penang Hill yesterday morning.
Besides Penang Hill, Yusrina said they also visited other tourist spots such as the Tropical Spice Garden, Penang Botanic Gardens, Blue Mansion and Penang Butterfly Farm.
Elang Wah is also the operator of KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus.
The double-decker bus is air-conditioned but the front half of the upper deck is an open-air section. It can seat 60 passengers and is equipped with disabled-friendly features.
