Overly sensitive? Never let hyperbole sway positive thinking

A FEW days ago, I came across an article about the controversial Elle magazine cover that featured Mindy Kaling. The photograph of this TV actress and writer is one of four covers for the magazine’s February issue.

If you ask me, without context, I would say I have no problems with the cover and I find Mindy looking very attractive. The quandary, as netizens have identified, is the other three covers that looked significantly different. While the other TV stars (Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler and Allison Williams) were shot three-quarter length in full colour, Mindy Kaling’s was cropped and printed in black-and-white. Almost instantly, there was inferrence that the magazine was being racist and mean.
