KUCHING: The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) has been successfully audited for compliance to the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system certification by TUV Nord Malaysia, an audit and management systems certification body.

The convention centre’s scope of certification encompasses the provision of service and delivery of the meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) relating to sales and marketing, as well as event planning and services.

“Quality service is paramount for BCCK. Our team have spent over a year to establish, review, monitor and fine-tune our working practices; and undergone extensive training to achieve competency in their tasks. This successful certification exercise illustrates BCCK’s commitment to delivering quality services in adhering to the principles of the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

“Most importantly, we aim to meet and where possible, exceed our customers’ expectations. I would like to thank our ISO 9001 team who have created an international quality benchmark that will be the building blocks to further enhancements in the coming years, and also to our patrons who have made BCCK their venue of choice and supported our position as Sarawak’s major MICE player with a global vision,” said BCCK corporate services manager and quality management representative Christopher Wan.

The ISO 9001:2008 is the second of such certification of management system for BCCK, having successfully embarked on ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System in 2011.

For BCCK chief executive Paul D’Arcy, this year had been a resounding one for the centre.

“BCCK has been recognised as the ‘Best Venue of The Year 2013’ by Sarawak Convention Bureau at the recent Anak Sarawak Appreciation Awards. With it attracting greater volume of businesses, the ISO recognition would serve as useful tools for us to enhance the overall management of events — big and small — and particularly major international events such as the Asean Tourism Forum 2014 in January and Routes Asia 2014 in March next year,” D’Arcy said.
