KOTA BELUD: In 1878, the district’s first British Resident William Pretyman founded the weekend market not just for the locals to trade but also for them to interact with each other.

Pretyman had established the Tamu or the weekly market to unite the people of Kota Belud, then known as Tempasuk, who are of various ethnic groups.
