HUANG Yao, born in 1917, was a famous painter, cartoonist and scholar from China. As a journalist, he shot to fame when he started drawing cartoons for the newspaper.

Niubizi, which literally means ox’s nose, was a cartoon character loved by many in China as it was not just funny but admirable and encouraging during troubled times in China.
