Promising future for Taman Permata residents

THINGS are looking brighter for the 400 families of Taman Permata in Dengkil with the state government’s pledge to offer land so that houses can be built for them.

State executive councillor V. Ganabatirau said the exco made the decision during its recent meeting and the affected residents had been informed.

Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi said he wrote a letter to the residents expressing the state’s commitment to resolving the issue.

He said about 30 acres of land would be provided for the construction of 400 units of link houses.

“This is in response to the Federal Government’s request for land from the state to build the houses as their flats are no longer safe.

“We are offering the land and we hope the Federal Government will build the houses,” he said.

He added the Federal Government must give a written undertaking that they were committed to building the houses, before the land could be released.

Ganabatirau said the Federal Government had earlier requested for the land so that the residents could be relocated from Taman Permata.

He said the 400 families had moved into the flats from four estates — Prang Besar, Sedgeley, Medengley and Galloway — in 1999 to make way for the development of Putrajaya.

It was reported earlier that the former estate workers were promised link houses but got flats instead.

On June 22, StarMetro reported that they had to put up tents in the carpark after the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp) declared the flat units unsafe for occupation.

Some have been housed at a hall nearby.

The residents had said their units had cracks all over, with tiles falling off from the wall and ceilings on the verge of collapse.

Ikram engineers had been carrying out checks at the site since the building was deemed unsafe.
