BIRTHDAY boy N. Thesigan was elated as he managed to sign up for the Penang Starwalk 2013 non-competition category on his birthday.
“This will be my fifth year joining the fun event with family and friends,” said the 17-year-old boy from SMK Dato Haji Mohd Nor Ahmad in Bukit Gelugor.
He was among the 100-odd people who signed up during the Penang Starwalk roadshow at the school yesterday.
Meanwhile, joining in for the first time are Syifaa Izzleen Arsli and Noor Ashikin Che Yon, both 14.
“I am excited because this will be a good opportunity to catch up with some friends.
“And I hope I can win something from the lucky draw,” said Syifaa.
Senior assistant of co-curricular unit V. Pethaperumal said more than 150 students were expected to join the heritage walk.
Over in SMK Georgetown, the roadshow received an overwhelming response as around 200 students submitted their registration forms.
Senior assistant co-curricular unit Saffie Ahmad said the students were eager to join the annual premier sporting event as it contributed to their co-curricular marks.
“This year, we see a two-fold increase in the number of participation, which also includes 15 teachers signing up in the non-competition category,” he said.
First-time participant Mohammed Fitri Waheed, 17, who is also a school runner, said he signed up in the non-competition category.
“Since this is my first time, I do not want to push myself too hard in the competition category,” he said.
Registration is open at Penang Times Square (information counter) from 10am to 10pm daily.
The public can also sign up at the Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas from 9am to 5pm daily.
