KUANTAN: Some 1,000 villagers from Kampong Kawah in Sungai Lembing would have access to other parts of their district with the completion of a new bridge.
The completion date of the new facility would be timed with the state ruler’s birthday.
During a site visit, Sultan Ahmad Shah said the bridge built by the Army is one of three bridges in Sungai Lembing including in Kampung Kuala Kenau and Kampung Seberang.
The Sultan added that the older bridges were repaired after the monson season due to floods and damage by water.
“The new bridge can be used by all classes of vehicles as it can support a maximum weight of 50 tonnes.
“Its also wider and higher than the water level during monsoon season and features a dual carriage way,” said the Sultan.
Commenting on the construction of the new bridge, Sultan Ahmad Shah said the Army was roped-in to get the job done under their jiwa murni social programme.
Construction of all the three new bridges costing RM36.7mil, added the Sultan, are ahead of schedule.
“The Army has proven their capabilities in handling such as task for civilians apart from their primary duty of safeguarding our nation’s sovereignity.”
Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob had also accompanied the state ruler during the site visit.
