Younger generation no longer buy gold during leap months for elders

IT IS a Chinese belief that the act of giving and receiving gold ornaments during a lunar leap month will bestow blessings on both parties.

This time around, the leap month is between May 21 and June 18 but goldsmiths predicted that there would be no mad rush for gold — a symbol of prosperity and good luck for the Chinese — come Monday.
