Politeknik Mukah on course to be leading institution in Sarawak

POLITEKNIK MUKAH (PMU) is poised to become one of the leading institutions of higher learning in the state in three to four years’ time.

PMU director Dr Mohd Nasir Abu Hassan shared this optimism at the Third Convocation ceremony of PMU held at its multipurpose hall in Mukah on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu officiated at the ceremony.

Mohd Nasir said some 5,782 students had so far gained valuable educational benefits from the various diploma and certificate courses offered by PMU since its inception in 2004.

“Efforts by PMU to continuously develop and upgrade produced positive results. It has helped Sarawak students who wanted to acquire knowledge and skills in technical, commerce and information technology to prepare themselves for the job market,” he said.

According to him, PMU had also provided opportunity to the students to further their studies to higher level.

Of the students who had acquired diplomas and certificates from PMU, some 5,000 or 88% are from Sarawak of which 47.7% (2,758) are Sarawak Bumiputera.

“As such, PMU must be seen as a long term investment for the Mukah people in particular and Sarawak in general in terms of educational development, especially for the state central region,” he added.

When PMU first started it had only 156 students, but now the population has increased to 3,144.
