Hooked on badminton for life

FOLLOWING his retirement from competitive badminton, former national men’s doubles player Yap Yee Hup thought it would be easy to hang up his racquet.

Although Yap had explored career opportunities in other fields, he soon realised that he wanted to put his shuttling skills to good use.

“I thought I could just walk away when I called it a day and try out something different. But I found out that I had to start from scratch learning a new trade,” said Yap.

Now, the 40-year-old Yap is playing a different role to promote the game as the group chief coaching director of the Yap Twins Sports Management. His brother is Yap Yee Guan.

And he has 12 assistant coaches in his stable to conduct training sessions at several centres in the Klang Valley such as Tropicana Golf and Country Club, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort and the Royal Lake Club.
