The ANCM21 is an international network of Asian capital and major cities undertaking joint projects on common tasks on crisis management, environmental countermeasures and industrial development and applying the outcome for the prosperity of the Asian region.
According to KL mayor Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Seoul, Singapore , Taipei and Tokyo have confirmed their attendance for the ANCM21 meeting.
Hakim told reporters this after the prize presentation ceremony of the Picture KL Photography Contest 2008 in Kuala Lumpur recently.
An exhibition and art festival will be held in conjunction with the ANCM21 meeting from Nov 19 to 22 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique is scheduled to open the ANCM21 meeting.
Meanwhile, 1,500 entries were received for the Picture KL Photography competition.
“We are very happy with the response. The contest is an initiative to promote KL as a tourism destination. We received many interesting photos for this contest, which will be used to promote the city,” Halim said.
“We plan to make the contest an annual event as well as introduce new categories such as one on festival faces of KL and another on interesting places in KL,” he said.
Photographers Glenn Guan and Darran Tan of The Star emerged as first and second place winners in the KL Sky category.
Guan won a cash prize of RM10,000, a Canon EOS450D camera and dining vouchers from SoHo KL worth RM650.
Tan won a cash prize of RM5,000, a CanonSX100IS camera and RM400 SoHo KL dining vouchers.
Utusan Malaysia photographer Aswad Yahya took home the third place prize RM3,000, a Canon PS A590 camera and a RM150 SoHo KL dining voucher.
The photo contest, held from June 25 to Aug 15, was jointly organised by the DBKL and the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Action Council (KLTAC), with sponsorship from the KL Tower, SoHo KL and Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd.
An exhibition of all the finalist entries will be on display next week at the main lobby of the DBKL complex in Jalan Raja Laut.
