TWENTY-year-old Grace Oon possesses almost every characteristic a girl could wish for. True to her name, she is extremely graceful, gorgeous, intelligent, sweet... and the list goes on.
Oon knows how to capture attention with her soft demeanour and confident pose. She is conscious of her poise and works to deliver the best first impression one could give.
She started her modelling career early last year because she said she always liked cameras, being either in front or behind the lens.
Oon began her research online, finding out ways she could break into the modelling industry when she came across call-outs for pageant entries and decided to give them a try.
“I tried looking for as many pageants as I could because I saw these events as stepping stones for me,” she said.
In 2007, Oon participated in three beauty pageants, one of them the Miss Malaysia /World where she was selected among the top 16 finalists.
“That was one of the first lessons I learned there – to embrace my physique and stand out among others taller than me,” she said.
What do you like about KL?
I like the fact that Malaysia has three mega sales a year and that the malls have sales almost every other month! I am blessed to find many money saving items here instead of having to travel all the way to Thailand for good bargains. The best sale, of course, has to be the year-end sale!
What do you dislike about KL?
Traffic jams and difficulty finding parking spots. The high parking rates don’t help either. But then again, KL is a city, so the constraint of space is understandable and thankfully it is still better compared to other cities.
What is your favourite food?
I am a big fan of food! But if I have to choose one, it has to be chicken rice! Those who are close to me know how addicted I am to chicken rice. It’s been a favourite since I was young.
What do you do to relax?
I really enjoy spending time with my boyfriend. We hang out together most of the time, be it watching movies or simply sipping a cup of coffee and enjoying each other’s company. I feel very comfortable around him because I can express whatever is on my mind and he’s always there to listen to my stories.
The best part is, we don’t need to walk into a glitzy cafe to be happy, even a mamak will do because I can then order unlimited amounts of iced Milo!
I also like flipping through magazines to get inspiration for various styles of writing, art designs, layouts, fashion styling and many more.
What is your favourite place to hang out in KL?
I would say Berjaya Times Square’s Starbucks because I can sit there for hours! The record is about six hours straight.
Besides that, I like Times Square because I don’t need to queue up when I want to purchase movie tickets. Plus, during sales, the shop lots there are emptier compared to other outlets!
