Local games distributor New Era Interactive Software Sdn Bhd is out to get rid of software piracy in the country.
The company in Kuala Lumpur represents about 50 game publishers such as Ubisoft, Take 2 Interactive, Activision and THQ.
“We got a tip-off and raided a cybercafe at Jalan Kuchai Lama with officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Ministry recently,” said sales manager Sze Jun King.
A total of 68 computers were seized from the outlet that used only one original copy of the game Serious Sam 2 for all its computers.
Sze said cybercafes should use original games and could opt for special packages with a monthly fee, depending on the type of software that they want to use.
