THE Summit Bukit Mertajam in Penang has been commended for carrying out activities benefiting the various races.
Health Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Lee Kah Choon said the shopping mall had, among others, held regular blood donation drives and cultural events during festivals of the various ethnic groups since it opened in November 1997.
“It has also helped charitable organisations,” he said at the mall’s 10th anniversary celebra-tion held recently at the Summit Hotel in Bukit Mertajam which was attended by more than 300 people.

Lee, who was the guest-of-honour at the event, said business at the mall had improved over the past 10 years while Bukit Mertajam had developed a lot.
He hoped The Summit would be able to play a bigger role in the future development of Bukit Mertajam.
Among those present were Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng, Bukit Tengah assemblyman Ng Siew Lai, Meda Inc Bhd chief exe-cutive officer Lim Hock Chye, its chief operations officer You Kong Hean and The Summit general manager K.C. Ooi.
Besides a sumptuous course dinner, the guests were also treated to cultural dances and shows at the event which was themed Shanghai Night.
