ONLY 12 major local authorities (LAs) out of 38 nationwide have installed CCTV since the Housing and Local Government Ministry launched the Safe City programme in 2004, said Federal Town and Country Planning department deputy director general I Kamalruddin Shamsuddin.
“Most of the LAs cited cost as the deterring factor,” he said in his presentation during the World Habitat Day 2007 seminar “A safe city is a just city” yesterday.
